Anyone know what Mike Johnson is doing here at 1:22? https://youtu.be/LOpfM8Ep3D0
It's the 7th lick, kinda sounds like he's hitting string 1 and 2 at 6th fret and lowering 2 a half then whole but getting back to the 5th fret d chord isn't as smooth doing it this way. |

Bobby,
Try 3&4 at 4 for the first few notes, then slide up to 5 on 4&5:
Tab: |
3 ___4-----___________
4 ___4R-4-4L__4L~5____
5 ____________4a~5a___
6 __________________5b
|
Hard to tell for sure if he's off that 'lower' before he slides up or not - kinda in-between.
Best guess at first quick listen...

Hey Bobby, This is what I'm hearing: 8th fret, A pedal, strings 4 & 5, release A pedal half way, then release A pedal fully. 3rd fret, A pedal, strings 4 & 5, then slide to 5th fret. 5th fret, B pedal, string 6, then slide to fret 3. 3rd fret, string 7. 3rd fret, B pedal, string 6, then release B pedal. 3rd fret, string 7. 3rd fret, B pedal, string 6, then slide to 5th fret. |

Bobby, have you tried using the option on the Youtube video to slow it down? It will help you hear the movements he makes, and it doesn't change the key. That feature has been a God send to me. It's a big help figuring out fast or complicated phrases and licks.
Sure sounds a lot like Paul Franklin. That lick at 3:27 is pretty bad to the bone too. |

I think I got it figured out. It's a simple lick but takes a lot of practice to phrase it up to speed. Es raised 4th fret sliding back to 3rd letting off Es engaging A and B. Yeah Mark I used the slow down on this but sometimes it can be hard to tell with multiple notes being played. The tone is similar to Franklin but the licks sound like Mike to me. |
