This past week I watched an old episode of the Porter Waggoner TV show on RFD-TV which featured Conway Twitty as the guest. Conway had this Steelman who played an S-10 with no volume pedal and just a few floor pedals. I couldn't tell if he had knee levers or not. This guy had everthing near the changer end and played with both feet on the pedals. I was impressed with his playing on "Working Girl"... He sounded like a Chicken Pickin' Telecaster player. Anyone know who he is/was?....JH in Va.

Do a search for Lew Houston here on the Forum. He has been discussed several times.

Check out his right pinky finger working a volume knob when he takes a ride on the song in this video.

Any idea what brand of steel guitar Lew is using in that video?

Did he have a built in volume pot into the bridge/ fingers area? Great idea if so and playing without a pedal is nice on the knee!

Don't have any pics of his earlier guitars Larry, but here is a shot of the S8 that Lamar Colvin built for Lew that shows the on board volume control he manipulated with his pinky.

I met him in St Lou. at Lamar's booth just a short time before he passed. Interesting gentleman and unique player.
