I've got too many amps, including two Session 400s, so just making some room.
Good condition, all functions work fine. It's got a few dings, definitely been gigged, but not abused. Top back panel is missing. Prefer local sale or somewhere within a reasonable driving distance of Austin.

Howdy Bill,
How do the Session 400's compare to the 500's? I've got a 500 that blows fuses after you turn it on and it rumbles loudly for a split second. But before this new angry side, this amp has been a solid performer. No end to the output and clarity. Just wondering if you've ever played through a 500 and if you can compare. I'm interested by the way, in Burnet, and am weighing the alternatives. I'm pondering having the 500 repaired in Austin at Strait. I guess it would greatly depend on what Strait charges for repair, which I should find out soon if they can estimate before looking at it...

Hi Doug,
I've never owned a Session 500, but I've heard some guys that say the 500 is the best steel amp Peavey ever made. The only negative I hear is how heavy they are. I just don't have any experience, never even played through one.
What I like about the Session 400 is that unlike the 500, it uses discrete components, there are no op-amps anywhere. So as far as SS amps go, IMO it 'acts' more like a tube amp when you lean on it a bit. That's not to say it's not strong and clean, it's just 'different'. Some guys agree with that analysis, some don't. I think it makes a difference. I've got a first year Session 400 (with the silver knobs and silk-screen faceplate) that I'm never going to sell. It's just a great amp.
As for repairing the 500, I know all those guys over at Strait, and they're reliable and honest. However, you might consider just taking the chassis out and shipping it back to Peavey. I've heard they are very affordable, and you absolutely know it will be perfect when you get it back. I've never heard anything but good about the Peavey service dept. and the turnaround is usually pretty quick. Find Mike Brown's email or PM and give him a shout for the details. |

I wasn't looking forward to packing up the chassis and shipping but I think you might have talked me into it. It will be right when I get it back.

Been really busy, but back to selling this amp. New asking price is 250.00.

| I've been playing a lot through my 74 session 400 lately. It just sounds spectacular. After the JBL blew three times and I gave up the ghost and put a black widow in it and I think it even sounds even better. These are great amps |

Hi Jeff, I'm guessing early 80's, based on that nylon/mesh grill and the colored knobs. I think that mesh grill was only used for a couple of years, but I'm not positive.
The serial number would tell the age for sure, but on those amps it was on a plate on the top rear panel, which unfortunately this one is missing. |
