| Hey guys I just ordered a quilter Steelaire, I was tired of hauling around my hernia 500 to the gigs and came across a good deal. I talked to a fellow steel player that plays for Randall king, and he was using one at the show the other day in my hometown of Lindale Texas. He had an excellent tone, and such a full sound for such a lightweight amp. I wanted to see if any of you players would mind sharing your settings? I did not get the Settings from him which I was kicking myself in the rear for ! Thanks guys |

Every guitar is different, so you probably like different settings. I have Bass at 6.5, low mid around 3.5, high mid 4.5, treble at 5.
You should start with bass, low mid, high mid and treble on 5. Than you would probably want to decrease the low mid, one notch at a time. After that, tweak the other settings

I have a Steelaire Rack and use an Eminence EPS-15C speaker.
My settings:
Bass: 7
Low and High Mid: 5
Treble: 3
I got these settings from another person on FaceBook. Seem to work OK for me.

These settings vary from place to place but are usually very close most places I play.
Bass 6
Lo mid 1
Hi mid 6
Treb 6-7
The attached link from facebook is one of the several bands I sub with occasionally. They play really loud and what you hear is the amp unmic'd. My guitar is a Williams with 710's.

Like the others in this post, my settings vary from gig to gig..... mostly, the more stage volume I need, I dial back the "low" settings... but generally I use something around:
Bass: 8 1/2- 9; Low Mid: 7 1/2; High Mid 8 1/2; Treb; 9...
Now many times I reverse the Low Mid, and High Mid to adjust for room acoustics.... and if playing a loud stage, outdoors.. I reduce the bass settings.
To me, another real important setting for this amp, since it is so "clean"... I always have the pre-gain volume only one half lower than the post gain... this gives an almost "tube like" quality to the amp.

| Dale, "head" was indeed a misnomer. I did mean rack. I've heard that rack settings can differ slightly from the combo due to the cabinet size of the combo . Can anyone with experience with both comment? |

Yes. They will vary greatly. The reason a lot of people thought they didn’t like the Steelaire was because of the cabinet and speaker that came with the combo. In my opinion, they weren’t the best choices, and really prevent people from realizing how great that amp is. Generally people with the combo are gonna have the bass cranked, due to the opening on the back of the combo being way too big. You lose a lot of bass response, and a lot of volume in general out the back of that combo. I humbly suggest trying the head with my TT-12 speaker, and a smaller 12†cabinet (which I can make suggestions on). A good bit of the design process for my speaker involved the Steelaire head. Or, just pair it with any speaker and cabinet option that you are fond of.

I've got another TT12 (sold the first one) mounted in a cabinet the physical size of a Nashville 112 cabinet with rear panels to approximate the opening that is in a Nashville 112 cabinet. This seems to work better than the first one I built with a smaller cabinet.
I'm using the TT12 with a Quilter 101R amp as a steel home practice amp and for use with my Tele. I had our lead guitar player do some tracking with his Strat and it worked well too.

I know this is a very old thread but I wanted to provide my experience using the Steelaire Rack with my speaker cab.
First, My speaker cab is all vintage JBL and built by a US Army musician (now Retired) to JBL Specs for this speaker combination.
1) Enclosed Cab! I love it because the environment doesn't effect the sound.
2) JBL D140 paired with a JBL 175 (potato masher) tweeter
3) JBL 3110 Crossover (HI-Mid-Low) I have it set to Mid. This drives the best overall sound for both E9 and C6, the c6 low end kicks butt, crystal clear!
I play 82 Emmons PP with tons of midrange! John Pearse Pearse Strings, Hilton Pedal.
I use TC Electronics M300 for Delay and Reverb.
I use the XLR output for PA main and monitors, no mic.
My settings are;
Base 8.5
Lo-mid 4.5
Hi-Mid 4
Treble 7.5
