Has anyone tried one of these amps? I bought one and run it with a 12" Bugera Bass speaker and comfortably gigged it with a 4 piece band (inc. Drummer) and it's so small you can put it in your jacket pocket. Well if you take the handle off that is. I love it.

I have one of those, and I LOVE it! I don't use it for steel, but it has been my main amp for tele lately. It is super clean, has a great tube tone, and it can get very loud through a 4 ohm speaker. For awhile I was running it through a 15" BW (4ohm) and it sounded phenomenal! Recently, I built a little 1x10 cab for it. I highly recommend this amp for electric guitar.

Does the amp break up at high levels?

As far as breakup, I've found that on full power you need to turn the amp almost all the way up to get any real break up, which would be very loud. But there is a switch on the back that lets you run the amp at 1/2 power or 1/10th power. If you use either of these settings, you can get some natural sounding tube break up at reasonable volumes. Or, you could get the AC model, if you are looking for more break up. I have heard that one gets dirtier at lower volumes.

This nu tube technology they have sounds great to my ears. It's not just a digital modeling amp that simulates tube sounds, it actually works like a tube, so you get all of the natural harmonics and whatnot that regular tubes give you.

I've been looking at this lately.
I assume it's powered externally with a seperate wall-wart or desktop style power supply?

Anyone compare this with Milkman, The Amp?

Yes, this thing is powered externally. It comes with it's own desktop style power cord.

As far as Milkman, I have no idea. I would assume that Milkman is in a different class than this.

But for $200, I don't know how you could get better than the MV50. This gives you real tube tone and tons of volume in a tiny package, for a very reasonable price. ... and you can plug it into any speaker you want.

I would not expect that the Vox could touch the Milkman's quality. But that is not based on my experience, just the reputation. I've heard a Milkman Half & Half, and it is a beautiful thing. If The Amp is based on that sound, then it's worth the difference in price for those that can afford it. For a couple hundred bucks, the Vox very good. I use it with a 4-ohm BW or an 8-ohm Eminence (TC's model). I'm happy with these combinations.

I ordered one of the MV50 Clean. From the research I've done this looks like a pretty good little amp. I'll know more when I get it.
