Here is an early 1950s Gibson Century, V2b, in its original case. The instrument was likely manufactured between early 1952, when Gibson switched from a painted metal to a plastic fretboard, and late 1953, when serial numbers were stamped on the back of the headstock.
A previous owner replaced the fragile plastic jackplate with a metal one, and had installed replacement tuners that were incorrect for this period Gibson. I installed the new reproduction white-buttoned Kluson Deluxe-style tuners from Gotoh. As far as I can tell, everything else is original. Please note that the retaining clip that holds the brass knurled nut to the fingerrest has gone missing.
This is a lovely instrument that sounds and plays just awesome. All of the controls work exactly as they were designed to do.
This is a fine example of one of the best of Gibson's postwar lap steels.
