I've had a hankerin' for a single neck 7-string for a while but the Gibsons and Rickenbackers are out of my reach right now. This crazy looking Japanese Teisco came my way for an affordable price so I decided to give it a shot. If Astro Boy played steel this would be the one.
I was a little disappointed to find that it was a 20.5" scale instead of 22.5" but I can adjust. It has really wide string spacing so that's kind of a plus. Had a crack in one corner that needed gluing. The pickup consists of a large L shaped magnet with two stacked single coil windings wired in series. The bottom winding was open so I just connected the top winding and still have a pretty growly pickup even with just the one winding. A few initial pictures:

Model EG-7L, I'm guessing from the 50's. There was a slot in the bridge for a rod that was missing so I ordered some 1/16" brass and fixed it. Gently straightened the bent #4 key. I thought I had taken a picture showing the pickup windings but I guess I didn't. Beyond that I just cleaned it up and and strung it in A6 with a high E.

The metal plates are reminiscent of the end of a samurai sword. I love it! Banzai! _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

I love 7 string steels. This one is very cool. I especially like the way the volume and tone controls are mounted. _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |
