I was watching a detective show from New Zealand called Brokewood Mysteries.
The sound track is laced with pedal steel guitar and some lap steel. I know it's a long shot, but, does anyone know the steel player? He plays very tastefully. A good job! |

The female vocalist on Brokenwood was Tami Neilson. Her and her brother Jay composed the music I am Told.
This is her answer "The players I’ve used on my albums are Red McKelvie (Steel) and Neil Watson (Lap).
Red is a great E9th player. Hope that helps

The soundtrack has several different artists on it so we would have to know which artist you were referring to..
By the way, it's the Brokenwood Mysteries. |

My bad about the Brokenwood Mysteries.
I didn't see the credits on it, but, if I had known the steel player, I wouldn't have brought up the question.

I was just trying to acknowledge his playing. It sounded really fine and suited the music well.
I just found this Brokenwood Mysteries show and was delighted with the music.

I'm not sure how long ago that was recorded, but for a time, whilst he was living in Auckland, Red McKelvie was quite active as a studio musician, playing Pedal steel, 6 string guitar, mandolin and cajun accordian - he has always been strictly an E9th player, but a very versatile and all round musician. He is pretty much retired these days and living the good life in the country of the South Island but I do still have regular chats with him on the phone. He still plays his old ShoBud LDG a bit too !!

| Small world, I just shared the stage today with Tami Neilson and 3 of her band mates, I'm sorry, I didn't get their names. It was at a festival in Mariposa, Northest of Toronto. She's a great singer! |

Yes while Tami lives in NZ and is married to a kiwi guy, she is a Canadian :-} Great singer indeed mate

I'm pretty sure I've seen Red play. Did he work with Al Hunter or John Hore Grenell, maybe?
My wife is a Kiwi, and though we live in Philadelphia, we've toured around NZ quite a bit over the years as a folk/acoustic duo. Saw Al Hunter play a bunch in a Auckland, and played Grenell's "White Cliffs" festival outside of Christchurch. |

Hey Jim, yes Red played with Al Hunter quite a bit around the Auckland scene !
Al now resides in Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island -- I actually worked with him on New Years Eve just gone :-} ...he's still singing well and writing great songs too.
I too have played the Whitecliffs festival quite a lot back in those times - sadly it is now defunct ! I have worked with John Grennell a lot too, although ill health and age has curtailed his career pretty much these days.
