My friend has a standard Stage One where the RKL raises strings 1 and 7 from F# to G. Is it possible to modify that pull to raise those strings up to G#?

Or is this pull locked in at the time the guitar is built?

Per Doug at Stage one:

"This is the standard setup from the shop. It is possible to raise strings 1&7 from F# to G#.

It is also possible to lower string 2 from D# to C#. No half-stop setup is available so it is an either / or choice."

Remove the tuning nut and spacer from string 1

GENTLY pry the black retaining disc and washer from the pull rod

Remove the rod

Re-install the rod in the hole closest to the shaft in the changer

Move the rod in the bellcrank farthest away from the cross shaft

Re-install the retaining disc and washer. You may need to flatten the disc to be able to re-use it

Re-install the spacer and tuning nut. You will want to give the rod a bend as it passes through the changer finger to improve the angle. The tuning wrench works well for this

Tune it up

Thank you. That sounds fairly straightforward.

And do the same thing for string 7? Or does it need less travel?

Just move 7 up two holes in the bellcrank and it should tune up to G#.

You might find that leaving 7 going to G gives more flexibility musically speaking. It's a great change.
