Sincerely a big thanks to all! A couple of answers to questions, I’m running straight into the amp which is basically a Deluxe Reverb on steroids. It’s 40 Watts or as Mike Scaggs refers to it “half a Twin”. He did the R&D on this amp, I was just the solder monkey. The speaker is an old EV Force I’ve had for 30+ years. I always loved how sweet sounding they are and it is my favorite speaker.

The guitar is the first prototype Zum Hybrid with the old chrome 705’s. As to if those are better than the new ones? I heard a difference when I AB’ed them. The older ones being a little hotter and brighter. Is it worth all the hype about them? Probably not. I’ve had all sorts of pickups over the years and I can get a tone I’m happy with with most of them. Not one pickup is ideal for all guitars, and I do like to tinker.

Jim, I also miss seeing my Oklahoma friends! Oklahoma was a great place to grow up learning steel and I never take it for granted.

I’ve started to work my way thru Randy’s arrangement of this neat old tune and it’s really interesting how Randy utilizes the lower string combos to affect a really sonorous tone that gives it a nice take away from usual higher string voicings. In normal tunes (country) we usually shy away from those string grips so this provides a nice contrast. Also, when I play these tunes in a swing band I’m in, I most always default to the C6 neck, forgetting that many tunes lie within the E9 voicings. Keep it up Randy, you’re inspirational.

Not enough double-yews in WOWWWW. Sort of like a pusher on a street corner offering you a free hit. Next time you are willing to mortgage the farm for more. Incredible doesn't quite fit.

Great old tune. Randy I was in St Louis the first time you played the convention. I remember talking with you after and you were so upset because you made a mistake. Who knew but you. I think you were eleven years old. I have been a fan since. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Randy, any plans to play steel shows? You played at the first Phoenix show I attended, fell in love with your playing then.

Anything new on your E9 copedent?

Hey John, at this time I’m not really able to do any steel shows. I’m touring with Joe Diffie and we are out most every weekend. Also my wife Judy is having some serious health problems so I stay close to home when we are off.

As to new changes to my tuning, three to four years ago I started lowering my 9th and 6the string a half tone together. It works the same as the 6th pedal on your C6th. That’s opened up a bunch of different combinations for me on the E neck. I used it several times in this video. It’s located on my RKL.

Randy, this concept needs to become an album. Combining songs like this with steel playing of your caliber is a match made in Heaven. Please do more. Very Happy
