b0b, this is what I got from the previous owner

Quote:
rare amp which Standel advertised as "Transistorized," this rare and complete model actually has an all tube power section with an additional 12AX7 and a solid state preamp. An early marriage of solid state and tube technologies (and many would argue one of the most effective and elegant), this amp is extremely robust and clear, with round crystalline clean tones thanks in part to the stock JBL D130F 15" speaker. Perfect for pedal steel and able to retain remarkable headroom at high volumes, the 83L15V has become a favorite of pedal steel players...

these tubes are supposedly original to the amp, and they still sound amazing...

Looks like 2 power tubes, although from the pic I can't tell what tubes, and the 12AX7 is probably used as the phase inverter.
So it's basically a solid state preamp with a tube power amp section.

Looks like they are 6GT5 tubes--they were originally designed as "sweep" tubes in televisions, but several companies used them in amplifiers successfully too, Standel and Grommes among others. They have the big "Novar" 9 pin base--sort of a supersized "Noval" base like a 12AX7 and the likes use. From what I can gather, they're kinda equivalent to 6L6s in power.

Since they were sweep tubes primarily, I wouldn't look for matched pairs or anything, but my bet would be that this tube might well be responsible in large part for the good tone that Damir is getting from this amp. I agree with John that the 12AX7 is probably the phase inverter, and the preamp is probably solid state (as in Music Man amps).

The bad news is that these tubes aren't made anymore.
The good news is that lots of NOS tubes are out there, and they're very reasonably priced.

Great amp! Loud enough for any gig and the tube tone is wonderful. Oh...and its the Wes Montgomery amp too. This one looks mighty clean.

thank you my friend, I love the amp, it sounds awesome , and it looks great, I just run into some financial issues after buying some other stuff I really couldn't afford , so this beauty may have to go, unless I can get the funds some other way... we'll see ...

Damir,

I think those amps originally had a 15" JBL speaker, Can you tell what speaker is in this one, and does it appear to be original?

Power amp section is a 12AX7 phase inverter with the 6GT5's as power tubes that delivers about 35 watts. Preamp section is all potted transistor modules. The "Custom"/"Imperial" "Transistorized" amps are great sounding and use the same schematic, except for the earliest ones which used 6GW6 power tubes with a plate cap.
