"Comfortable for bare forearms when it's hot."
Well,,,,,your bare arms shouldn't be resting on your guitar! You've got a lap.

This post is becoming a key driver for me, watershed moment. My takeaway: a proper relationship with the bar is necessary. Gotta do it, now. It's an intimate and powerful link with the instrument.

Thank you, Paul, for cutting to the chase. You got my attention. To those who reached out and offered to show me how, I am grateful. The fellowship here is amazing, humbling, and uplifting.

Your suggestions are all appreciated. Each of us is uniquely constructed. Posture, seat height/position, guitar height/slope (front:back), lever angle adjustments, Day vs. Emmons, first pedal on 1 or Zero? So many considerations, and they do make a difference. And it took me all of this time to realize I need to learn how to hold this steel bar. Why go to all the trouble? Something draws us to this "nice little hobby." Maybe it's intangible, but there's no denying its strength. It's "Really Got A Hold On Me."

I am working on a guitar for a student. If you find you don't need that pad, I would sure take it off your hands. Let me know.

Johnie, you know you got a point, if it was painted to look like a rattler, I would tend to keep my arms off of the guitar! Laughing

Tim, if I didn't have 5 holes in the top of my guitar I'd be glad to let you have it. The piece of wood that serves as the foundation has threaded studs for the 5 screws that hold it to the deck. So it's going back on to the guitar, albeit dressed for a less pretentious occasion.

After checking myself out I have come to the conclusion that when I play my Desert Rose S-10 which is a body and a half wide, smaller than a SD-10 Yet a little wider than an S-10 I only use the pad to help push my picks on,I don't lean my bar hand on it at all,Maybe because my gut is in the way?just my observation.

Dan, when I ordered my new MSA S-10, I waffled like crazy for a time if I wanted S10, or SD10, with or without a pad... The reason I waffled so much is because although I like the idea of a Pad, when I go and play my Dad’s LDG, my forearms sweat like crazy because of the pad... Some manufacturers use different material than the old LDG’s, and some of it is “Less” sweaty than other's... I’ve only felt the LDG’s and the Show Pro’s which I thought was very good... its a little harder and thinner than some of the others, and I didn’t seem to have any issues with it... although I bought an MSA, I had never felt their pad, so with the not knowing, I finally decided to opt for no pad... On this guitar I think the look is cleaner, and the guitar feels like I want it too when I’m sitting behind it... Aaaaaaaand, no sweaty forearms Smile Wink

Double 12 conversion I used 1/4 inch maple board an covered with 1 /8 inch yoga mat and covered with case material so it 3/8 thick if I had thin leather would be cool. Attached with double sided tape. Can u imagine drilling holes in deck of one of Jeff’s Sho Pros to stick a pad on that beautiful wood. You might talk Jeff into selling u a thin pad his pads supper cool looking.
