I went to the musicians trade/swap fair ( since it was raining out but better than snow)
And ran into some old dobro & steel pals. Brian Peters, Cal Hand, me. Couple of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Cass we were talking bout you and some others.

Thanks, Kevin for the great photo! Remember Brian from Clem’s place on West Lake, and Cal taught me how to play in Rog Suneson’s basement on East Lake! |

Kevin - thanks for posting! Nice to catch up with you and Cal. I have many good memories of driving to the twin cities in the 70's to just to watch Cal, Mike Cass, Mark Lee, Russ Pahl, Al Udeen. Great times!

Here's Cal Hand playing dobro at the Musicians Trade Fair last Saturday in Eagan, MN. Background noise - lot of people milling about and shopping. Cal is playing the dobro portion of the song "Short Stories" that he co-wrote with Leo Kottke and recorded on Leo's "Ice Water" disc.

This Is A Photo At The Famous SUNESON'S MUSIC STORE" On E. Lake Street In Minneapolis. "Uncle Roger Suneson" At The Front Of The Store & Gary R. Behind The Counter.
I Used To Visit Suneson's Music Almost Every Saturday
Afternoon Between 1968 To 1978. I Would Quite Often Meet Up With Gordy Parker & Don Smith.

I spent many a Saturday at this store. Made some great friends there, and learned a lot musically. Wish we had a store like this again. It was a great place to hang out and listen to some great local players. Roger and Char were great people to know and was a instant friend to everyone that came in. Didn't care if you bought or not, but you always ended up buying something anyway. Some of the people that I met there were Al Udeen, Joe Savage, Albert Svenddal, Bill Lane, Gordy Parker, Lucy and Russ Paulson, Earl and Randy Anderson, James Dungan, Nate Dungan, Pickin' Bob, Dennis Johnson, and many others.

Keep those photos coming, Gary! Anyone recognize the musicians? Is that John Fields on the steel? Gordy on the banjo? |

Yes that is Johnny Fields on steel and Gordy on the banjo. I did take more photos of the store on this day. I'll dig into my well organized archive and see what's there. |

Could that be Jim (Ritchie?) behind the counter instead of Gary? |

I don't remember Gary ever having his hair nearly as long as the guy behind the counter. Still looks like Jim to me. |

Yup. And Maurice Anderson, too. Rog handled MSA when Chalker was an endorser. |

Saturday afternoon jams at Suneson's were a tradition for decades. Here's Betty Holmer, Al Udeen, and Albert Svenddal in May 1996.

Thanks for another great trip down Memory Lane, Gary.
You wouldn't have a pic of Russ & Lucy Paulson on a Saturday at Suneson's in your archives, would you? |
