I'm playing with dropping the low G string to E on my Dobro. I like that tuning a lot but tuned to a low E the string doesn't sound good. I don't really want to mess with the gauges. I'm still going to play the vast majority of my stuff in GBDGBD. I'm using typical Phosphor Bronze Dobro strings and my Dobro sounds good in G.

Has anyone ever used a Copper Bronze low string. My favorite acoustic guitar strings are a hybrid metal set that uses a copper bronze low E for better bass response. Phosphor Bronze A&D strings and a 80/20 Bronze for G. I was curious if using the copper bronze on the bottom could add more clarity when dropped to E.

Thanks

There's only one good way to find out. Buy a set of strings and put them and see what YOU think.

I tune Spanish: D G D G B D
and I like the John Pearse Strings with the 0.059" for the sixth string. This isn't as 'floppy' to me as the 0.056"s are.

Of course, Brad has already given the Definitive Answer. Cool

The consensus seem to be to use a Phosphor Bronze string on the bottom but increase the gauge possibly as heavy as a 60. Another alternative is a GBEGBD G6 tuning. I like the E on the bottom.

Thanks.
