Hi Friends,

Today I was fortunate enough to play guitar at the Memorial Service for Nokie Edwards of the Ventures today. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to my friend, but it was a wonderful event.

Unbeknownst to the band, we backed Skunk Baxter ( of the Doobies and Steely Dan) on Sleepwalk. His Sho Bud sounded so wonderful and He did such a great version It was so appropriate.

And Skunk is such an interesting guy. We got to nerd out talking steel guitar. What a treat it was!

Way cool, Mel!

How's your special guitar for wheelchair folks project going? How's your playing coming along? I miss our time together for lessons!! But I know you're well on your way to becoming a great player.

Hi Jerry,

Yes. That is my old friend Deke. I’ve played with him on and off for almost 30 years. I will say that this Venturesmania band we have is the geekiest tribute band ever. We did an album a few years ago featuring Nokie on a few songs, and it was mostly originals. If you like 1965 Ventures, you’ll dig the record.

Was sorry to hear of Nokie's passing. Him & The Ventures were my greates guitar influence, along with Danny & Roy. Love those Mosrites in the pics. Here is a pic of my original '65 Ventures model.
