That's Maurice Anderson on a Johnny Gimble LP that I have but can't recall the name. The tune is called Mando-lopin" (SP?)
Two different times I had the honor of backing Johnny Gimble when he was booked in Georgia and was fortunate to have a quiet 20-30 minute one on one with him in the dressing room. All Johnny wanted to talk was steel guitar! Maurice was his first choice "from the time Haggard got me that deal on Capitol". His favorites were Jaoquin closely followed by Herb Remington from the old days. Besides Maurice, he loved sessions with Emmons in Nashville and Morrell's playing. He had a great story about Morrell starting out. I won't go into that here since I have already drifted the topic.

Bill, no problem to drift if you have to tell a story! You are welcome anytime!
The track this week is called "Rural Ruffin'" and comes from Johnny's 1988 album "Still Fiddlin' Around". Of course that is Reece on steel. "Mandolopin'" is also on the same album.
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |
