We've lost jazz trombonist Bill Watrous at 79.

Back in the 90s when I played guitar in my high school's jazz band, we would play an annual "jazz festival" at the local college. One of those years, Bill was the guest clinician who critiqued the high school bands. In the following years I remember seeing him play many times on PBS. A great talent. RIP. |

RIP, Bill. A musician's musician and a name ubiquitous at one time. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Every time I see his name (quite often), I think of a web site I found over 20 years ago in which Bill gave an explanation of "circular breathing" as it is practiced by certain jazz horn players.
I had been curious about it at the time and he explained that it isn't "breathing" as normally understood. A very talented and lucid guy. |
