I am pretty diverse in my music tastes, but do really like acoustic instruments and voice with a steel guitar. However, these songs generally do not get the attention of the big country hits. I've been thinking about posting this for a bit, and just read the thread on recording tracks on a minimalist song, and figured it would be nice to expand. So, please share any of your favorite such recordings. For this thread, I'm not really looking for instrumentals, but where steel and acoustic instruments accompany vocals.

The post - Suggestions for adding pedal steel for a stripped down song

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=328068&highlight=

From this post we have:

Neil Young, "Heart Of Gold" and Michael Nesmith, "Joanne".

To that I would add the following:

Peter Cooper, the whole "Lloyd Green" album.

Charley Pride, "Live From Panther Hall"

Daniel Romano, "New Love", (the version recorded at American Songwriter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_xsyVklTqQ

Black Crows, "Before The Frost"

Michelle Shocked, "To Be A Cat" and "Bare Necessities"

Chris Rhea, "Paint My Jukebox Blue"

John Sebastian, "Rainbows"

Son Volt, "Creosote"

Bruce Cockburn, "Southland of the Heart"

Ryan Adams, "Please Do Not Let Me Go"

So how about you? Which songs featuring pedal steel with acoustic instruments and vocals stand out for you? Unknown bands, personal recordings - please share them!

I wish more members would make a post like this, none of us are aware of everything and everyone, a post like this brings Musicians to our notice we would never hear of. I can guarantee you I will be doing something from Daniel Romano.

Meanwhile one of mine I hope will qualify, at least just to keep your thread going.

Just heard Coming into Los Angeles by Arlo Guthrie. Hadn't heard it in many years. There's a nice subtle steel in there.

Mike Nesmith's "And the Hits Just Keep On Coming" album is just him on acoustic guitar and Red Rhodes on steel. Essential stuff.

#2 for Nesmith and Red Rhodes "And the hits just keep on comin'". My #1 steel guitar album.
Red Rhodes is crazy!
Buddy Emmonds allegedly said of Red Rhodes, "The cat can't play".
Hmmmm...

Sorry - a rogue 'd' appeared in Buddy's surname. I blame the typist.

Oh oops thanks Joachim. I thought it sounded a bit heavy on the A pedal.
