This shows one possible method for making one knee lever perform the same duty no matter which direction it is activated. Although the diagram shows its performing just one action, it could be modified to do two quite easily.

This would likely have application to universal machines where a pedal change could be used in both the E9 and B6 venues. Such a change is the lowering of the 8th E-string to a D. This lever's only logical location is on the LKR when the left foot is operating the outside E9 pedals and, redundantly, on the LKL when operating the inside pedals normally associated with the C6 neck.

Since I also had this lever activating the 2nd Eb-string to a Db with the extra force of a half-stop, the forces placed on the mechanism were more than it coud bear. I do believe it would function if a single string at a time were involved.

If this lever were shortened such that the player could easily slide the knee under the lever while playing, locating the lever with the knee again would be a snap.

Diagram is avaliable via email.
