It can be years in between pickup installations and with the misery of springs flying off and getting one on and losing the other.... if I've ever discovered ways to make this easier, I surely have forgotten them by the time I'm ready to tackle it again.

This made a BIG difference.
I punched a hole in a business card with a sharp awl and cut a square washer out of it and screwed it on. The tape is just holding the screw until the washer goes on.
This worked really well.

Great idea. Many of us have had the experience of watching a tiny screw or spring bounce bounce bounce and then disappear.

I found that you can even screw the 'washer' down enough that it holds the screw fairly straight for slightly easier alignment with the four holes.

Stupid simple, right?
Standing there shouting at everything in sight after getting three screws almost in and having the 4th spring fall out.....desperation is the mother of invention.

These rightfully should be called nuts, not washers. And of course, there is no need to remove them as they add no significant thickness. Out of sight/mind.
When you are not fighting to keep the springs on while trying to seat the four screws in the cavity holes, the job becomes a LOT easier.

Good idea. I have indeed launched the spring across the room into oblivion.
