Depends on the version of the NV400. If its an original one with a 1502-4 speaker, there is no need to "mod". If its a later model with a 1501-4 and not been modded then the tone mod will restore low and mids that are needed because of the speaker. The NV400 was originally designed to work with a 1502-4 speaker, when they changed to the 1501-4 that has a different frequency response they failed to change the tone circuitry response to accommodate the 1501-4. The tone mod, on those models fixes the problem.

Thanks, Jack. It is a little trouble to install them if not needed.
