Peavey Mini Max 500

I've read a few comments here about the fan in the Peavey Mini Max 500 bass amp head being a bit noisy for home [music room] use. Does anybody know if Peavey has done anything to address this? How does it sound for pedal steel? Is it an improvement over the MB 200 that I have? I suppose it would be risky to disconnect the fan. Just wondering. It does have a lot of features for the price. Thanks
