1) playing outside, hot or cold...
2) playing with other sidemen who overplay and won't share the fills.
3) playing with singers who break time.

In that order,
Sincerely,
Don E.

Not enough opportunities.
No opportunities to really dig in to jazz with other players.

This is why I support the death penalty.

You guys have pretty well covered it. I wish I had someone to play with other than the CD bandstand tapes, but they do help me get my chops honed. I guess one of my pet peeves is a musician(?) who doesn't know anything about the complexities of the pedal steel trying to tell you how to play it so that it sounds good to him. The "musical experts" in the band. I'm sure all of you have had experience with these people. I too support the death penalty. We used to have a law on the books in Arkansas that stated, "He just needed killin'", but I don't think it's there anymore.

I can't make a good living with it.

I'll never be able to play at the level I would like.

It can't remember the new lick I put on it last week.

This is the first time in my life I've ever wanted to be rich. Playing PSG has taught me envy and desire. I want guitars I cannot afford. Plus, changing strings is annoying. LOL.

1. Trying to tune on stage while other musicians are tuning and only a minute to do it.

2. Playing outdoors

3. Being in a playing rut for months on end and not being able to break out of it.

Bonus: all of the reasons ya'll listed.

1. Needing decades of practice in order to sound even halfway decent at it.

2. Having to work very hard to convince the musicians I know that the PSG (with me playing) might have some value in their musical ventures.

3. Getting past mundane, all-too-easy licks as a bedroom player and moving on to laying out some real playing. (Dream on, Bill!!!)

1.Guitar player trying to play the steel parts leaving you the crumbs.
2.Singers trying to save money and not using the steel which put the signature licks that helped sale their album.
3.The extra set up time and tear down time.

Not having the balls to say...lets jam. I think a lot of us here would love to play and sound better. And to pack it up and take it out to ANY jam. I don't feel one bit sorry for all the guys complaining about having to set up and tear down. Isn't this the instrument YOU picked to play and entertain people with your skills and ability to sound great. You should still be loving what your doing. If you are...quit complaining. If you don't...then theres always the Tele.
