I came across this old episode (1990) of the Tommy Hunter Show where he has as some of his guests Hank Snow and Kitty Wells with steel breaks by Kayton Roberts and George Edwards respectively. Also interesting to see a very early appearance by Patty Loveless on the same episode. It's an hour long show so you may want to skip ahead here and there to find what suits your tastes.

We often hear the expression " not fit to carry his guitar ". Actually that's exactly what I did for George Edwards one time. He was kind enough to answer a whole bunch of my newbie questions as he was tearing down after a local show. In return I carried his black Emmons out and put it on the bus for him. He was a really nice guy to chat with. |

Yes indeed thanks Bill. Love hearing stories about “Big Georgeâ€. He befriended me years ago and was special to me. And what a great player! Smooooth....
Kayton Roberts.....man what can you say...just a master...When I hear him play I think, “Gee, who needs pedals? _________________ Tommy Detamore

Hey Tommy, I'll always be thankful for that local summer festival for bringing players like you and George to this far flung place. I'd not have succombed to the steel guitar bug otherwise. I'm trying to remember who was in town first, you with Moe Bandy or George with Kitty Wells. I do remember that George offered to sell me that black Emmons but I didn't have the price at the time. Not sure what he was going to do for a steel if I had taken it. He may have been carrying two or maybe they were wrapping up their tour here.
As for Kayton Roberts, he seems to have been quite the character and he sure got a lot of voices out of that old Fender. |

I remember when George was with Hank Jr and all their instruments and amps got lost in NYC and they had a show in Rochester NY, George asked to borrow my Sho Bud and my Sho Bud amp to do the show. I even had to give him some picks, which I still have today. He was a great friend and a great player, I miss him a lot. |
