I make no apologies for asking this and feel that this question may have been asked before but trawling through the archives am at a loss.

Is there any Billy Robinson tab or instructional material out there. For a man with such a distinctive style I find it hard to believe there is very little.

He used C6th tuning with lots of string pulling to get dom7th sounds and pedal steel changes.

When I used to study his style he did semi-tone and whole tone string pulling. At times pulling 2 strings at a time.

The best book that teaches this techniques and approach which relates to C6th with the Major and minor triads is Stacy Phillips Dobro book even though the book is in Dobro G tuning for most of it. it was a great study. This book is small so you can carry anywhere and has TAB so you will be fine if you don't read music notation.

All intervals can be related to C6th

Enjoy if that is what you're going for.

Pros
are that it offers more pedal style sounds
more chords like E13th

Cons
You sacrifice on sounding in tune
You lose ALOT of speed when changing chords.

Thanks for that Stefan. As you may have guessed from my Souncloud page the forward and rearward slants is not a problem. It's this mans feel and what he does to link one passage to another and the changes he makes while playing the melody notes. He has a feel all of his own.

I was referring to string pulling slowing you down.

Slants shouldn't.

Good luck with it Mick. It offers a whole lot more options on the standard C6th neck.

Had the real pleasure of chatting and listening to Billy Robinson at Dallas. His style is so catching and is able to really pull off pedal sounds, which just blew me away. Legend!! I was gifted this signed print! I treasure this now.

Awesome photo; thanks for sharing!

Isn't that June Carter wearing the mini-dress to Billy's left?
