My Webb amp has what looks like the original JBL K130-4 speaker in it. It makes a vibrating/burping sound when volume gets up a little, and I play some lower notes on my steel and lapsteel. I'm thinking the only cure is to replace the speaker. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Kevin - Telonics makes a 15", 4 Ohm speaker that drops right into the Webb. The speaker is made for them by Eminence. I believe it is patterned after the JBL. So, if you like the JBL in your Webb, there's a pretty good chance you will like the Telonics. Their customer service is unbeatable, too.

There are other good speakers out there, too, like the Eminence EPS-15C. The Eminence/Travis Toy TT-15 looks really promising. I have one a TT-12 (12" version that I like a lot. There are several more. I'm sure others will chime in here.

When it comes down to it, it's really what your ears like. I don't know how many speakers I bought, sold, and still have. Good luck with your quest. We've all been there. Many of us still are.

Thank you Jim ! Think I'll give the Telonics a shot. I love the amp but haven't been able to take it out on a gig recently,so hopefully soon ! Appreciate your help ! Merry Christmas !

Although the original JBL genuine cones are no longer available, there are still a couple good recone
kits available from repair facilities. As mentioned above, the new neo speakers are excellent and effectively reduce the weight of a very heavy Webb.
Save that old JBL however!

Thanks for the input Kevin. I think I will hang on to the JBL. It does seem okay at a low volume,so maybe I could always use it in a practice amp or maybe get it re-coned someday.

Appears to be a fair deal on an 8Ω K130 re-cone here.

Thanks for the heads up on that Jerry ! Looks like I'll have to wait until after Xmas to get another speaker.

I have re-coned some JBL speakers.
Not a big deal.
You can get a good recone kit from www.soundspeakerrepair.com
I just ordered a 4 ohm kit for a JBL D130F speaker yesterday. Very Happy

Thanks for the info Erv ! I may look into this for an 18 inch Black Widow from a Bass Cabinet.
