Might have to make a trip down to Portland just to see the Bigsby. Not often you find one let alone one for sale.

I'm not sure from the Photos, but that Bigsby sure looks like Cherry wood to me.
Also where are that guys legs?

Think I may have read somewhere that Paul Bigsby did build one or more from Cherry wood, but can't remember for sure and I'm no expert.

It is Cherry! A few Bigsby steels were made with Cherry wood, including Ernie Ball's S-10.

Thanks to Chris & Bill.
Your posts were good.
After I posted my comment I looked up in the Bigsby book (Should have done that first) and saw the Ernie Ball steel and guess that's where I'd seen a cherry wood one before.

To Bill goes a special thanks for those links, very interesting and I've book marked the pages to read more carefully when I'm fully awake. It's still early morning on this side of the big ball.

Would be good to know the total number of Cherry steels he built just because I find the man so interesting. Myself I worked with cherry many times in cabinet making but never really liked the wood enough to use it in an instrument. Think if ever I could afford a Bigsby I'd want it to be a birdseye maple one. Very Happy

Not to distract from the thread but Andy, you just made me remember something. When I was small, my dad cut down a Cherry tree and was determined to build something with it. We moved that log (it was big) from house to house, even moving it across the state. And after he died, my mom had to throw it out. Everytime I think if holding on to something that I'll get to one day, I think about that log.
