NAMM = National Association of Music Merchants, people who own and manage music stores. The NAMM show is a trade show
where you see all the latest new products. The big one is in Anaheim California and they have another show in Nashville during the summer.

Pedal steel companies - unlikely.

Biill Asher will be there with his lap steels (along with his standard guitars).

Paul Beard will have a booth with his resonators.

National Reso-Phonic will be there with their Scheerhorn resonators along with all the other guitars for which they're historically known.

The companies with the import instruments for national distribution who carry resonators and in some case lap steels will have booths - Gold Tone,Saga Music (Regal resonator), Recording King. Peavey will be there so there's a good chance Robert Randolph will be at their booth.

To follow up on what Larry wrote above, the show is mainly for buyers of goods for the retail music industry and as we know, you just don't walk into a typical music store and see a new Mullen or Williams or GFI steel guitar - unless it is one of the handful of pedal steel specialty retailers around the country.

I don't know what it costs in recent years, but booth space is expensive and then you have all the other costs: hotel, meals, travel. So it's not typically in the cards for the small pedal steel builder and beyond that, it's very unlikely that "Joe's Music Store" is going to order a $3000 pedal steel when they don't have the slightest idea as to what makes it tick.

I read recently that due to the expense, and the fact is, they don't really need to be there, Gibson is not having a booth this year. But like Fender, it's not just a simple booth, it's a large section of the convention center.

Jim Palenscar and a partner purchased the Goodrich pedal company awhile back and he will be there with a booth, but that's a different deal - I'm guessing Jim wants to get a higher profile with the standard electric guitar players market.

Greg Leisz with Jackson Browne at the Asher booth last year playing the Warren Zevon classic, "Lawyers, Guns and Money:"

The purpose of NAMM is to give manufacturers of instruments a place to show their wares to retailers and distributors. Pedal Steel Guitar builders generally sell their instruments directly to their customers, without going through the retail system. It doesn't make sense for them to exhibit at NAMM.

Last year one company had steel guitarist Tom Mossburg demonstrating their product, (I forget what it was,)and several years ago Al Vescovo played a steel with an Alumitone pickup at the Lace booth.

There's the John Pearse booth too - nice show pricing on bars (when they have them!) Peterson usually has show pricing as well. And I will definitely be checking out that Milkman amp-in-a-pedal. Nice to hear Goodrich will be there - don't recall them being there last year.. but last year was a wash out (literally)

There’s an extraordinary (solid flamed-to-death koa and spectacular inlay) Jackson Pro V at the Hearne Hardwoods booth in Hall E, space 2624.
