No, it won't sound like a dobro.

The Fishman Aura pedals use acoustic samples to enhance live performance by mimicing a mic'd sound. You use the sample that is close to the acoustic intrument that you are playing. It definetely gets you closer to a mic'd sound. I use one and it does help to overcome that piezo sound common to amplified acoustic electric instgruments. I am quite happy with mine. I have played electric guitar through it. While it does give some interesting sound options, it is not designed to be used as an effects or simulator box. It will not make an electric sound like an acoustic, and it will not make an acoustic sound like a dobro or mandolin, or anyother sample that it has. It wil also function as A DI box, just don't mix in the sample. I bought mine used. IMHO a little pricey new for it's limitations.

I tried the lap steel thru an Aura. Not a pleasant sound to my ears. Even a catcan sounded poor. You’re better off running it thru a simulator pedal like a Matchbro or the Bradshaw pedal.
