I've never owned a Dobro that sustained like a steel, and Mike had also noticed it had markedly less.
I've never heard a flattop that sustained like a Tele, let alone a Paul.

I also have a Danelectro Finch&Chimps pedal and have also recorded with it and it sounds pretty close to my ears,I think it was a $40.00 investment.

Oval shape? Can you post a photo?

"I originally used a BOSS GE-7, but got tired of its constant hiss,......."

I picked up a used Boss GE-7 last year specifically for the dobro thing.
Guess what? It hissed.
I replaced just three of the op amps with Burr Browns and it's now like night and day.

This dobro simulator move also works well with a 6 string acoustic electric played wit a slide/bottleneck.

Sorry, can't post a photo because I no longer have a GE-7.
They have seven bands:
1) Set the middle slider full up.
2) Set the 3rd slider and the 5th slider 75% down.
3) Set the 2nd slider and the 6th slider 75% up.
4) Set the 1st slider and the 7th slider midway.
Conversely:
1) Set the middle slider full down.
2) Set the 3rd slider and the 5th slider 75% up.
3) Set the 2nd slider and the 6th slider 75% down.
4) Set the 1st slider and the 7th slider midway.
Perhaps more like a "D" than an oval or a football.
Like Charlotte Motor Speedway.
