Due to my own poor technique, I occasionally let a pedal up abruptly (foot slips off) or, when I am releasing the A, my shoe gets an edge under the B and in both cases the rod disengages from the undercarriage and flops in the breeze.

Then I have to climb under there and reattach it. Yes it has happened on stage Sad

How is it supposed to be? Is there a way to retrofit some forgivenessd?

Oh - it's a BMI S-10...

Thanks

Where does it disengage?

Are you talking about a pedal rod or one of the pull rods?

Sorry, but the answer to this one is also "practice". Probably everyone on here had that problem. It disappears with time.

I figured as much. It happens less often as time goes on...

Couple things come to mind. Be sure the rods are hooked up properly, i.e. from the proper side of the pedal crank. Some guitars will go in either way, and sometimes use a part of the body to help prevent this.

Maybe use some self adhesive loose foam weatherstrip or similar to place between the body and the rod...either between the apron and the rod or the deck and the rod depending on how yours are oriented.

The stuff has enough give to facilitate connecting the rods, but should have enough spring back to help capture it somewhat. Might help your accidental disconnect issue...

You should not be able to make it happen. As best as I can recall, a BMI pedal rod will have the hook part looking at the player's side of the guitar. If it is hooked up correctly either there needs to be a slight bend put in the rod so it won't snap out or perhaps add a small piece of a furniture felt glide between the rod and the front apron to eliminate too much slack.

This pictures shows how the pedal rods should be hooked up:

I guess it depends on the brand of guitar.
I've never had that problem.

The part name you're looking for is 'pedal actuator'.
Bell crank is the thingamajig with all the little bitty holes all in a row where the pull rods attach.

I've had a lot of different brands. Some pedal rods that are really thick are L-shaped at the end with only a slight flange to keep them in. I find that type fall out if you just look at them wrong. What I have been using is thick rods as usual but with a much thinner hook welded on to the rod so it is U-shaped and will not fall out. You might bend the rods to crap but they will not fall out.

I did mine this way. They won't fall out.
