I have a couple of preamps and need a power amp. I prefer a 1U/single space rack mount amp or something similar. If you have a fully wired ready-to-go rack, we can talk about that, too. I have 1U and 2U preamps, so a rack should probably be a 4-spacer. Thanks.

A Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp is an option too. |

Jim, I have one of Jay Ganz' Straight Ahead amps. It's 300W (into 8 ohms), loud, clean, 1 lb, and tiny. It could easily be tucked inside your rack case and free up a rack position for something else. I mounted mine on an unused pedal board shelf along with reverb/delay pedals. I put that little rig inside an open back 12" speaker cabinet with a Double-T 12 and plug my fiddle preamp/EQ into that. It also sounds great with a Sarno V8 preamp and steel.
Jay suggests powering on the preamp before his amp. That may not be easy if the amp switch is inside your rack and not accessible. I forgot to do that a few times and everything worked fine. I think it is just needed to avoid a loud pop. _________________ Tom Dillon

Thanks, Tom. A Straight Ahead amp is tempting. |
