So I am headed to the hardware store to get a tuning wrench for my new old sho bud. What size do I need for those little hex tuning thingies? Thanks in advance.

Edit: The old brain is slow these days. It was Xcelite like the one in this photo from www.testequipmentdepot.com ...just for future reference.
Alternately, a 5mm metric socket will also work.

At risk of hijacking this thread, is there a reason - aside from being cheap and easy to replace - that those nylon spacers are used for the tuner nuts on the changer? As opposed to something like aluminum for example.
It seems that a harder (and theoretically less compressible) material with a balled or chamfered end rather than the squared nylon guys would be better. But perhaps I'm wrong.... |

The plasticity factor of the Nylon Tuners make that material a
good choice for providing grip around the threads of the metal
pull rods and keeps the adjustment free from slippage.
You may see brands of steel guitars that use a metal hex in the
changer window for tuning adjustment but those are affixed to
the pull rod, such that when you turn the metal hex, the pull rod
turns in unison with the metal hex. Sho-Bud rack & barrell, Sierra
and Excel are a few that have used this system.

Also, when you take up the slack in the pull train, a metal nut will clack against the scissor. Those who are intensely bothered by the soft "tick" of a nylon nut have been known to add a felt washer
