Continuing my understanding of the C6 fretboard I have worked up a version of Jigsaw Puzzle Blues by Fleetwood Mac.
Getting better at seeing shapes and pockets of notes but still needed to raise the bottom C string to C# to play smoother 7th chords!

| Nice job, Mike. I've always enjoyed Kirwan's quirky composition. Hadn't occurred to me to try it on steel. I have a feeling I'll be spending some time fooling around with this one, myself, today. |

Nice job on this tune. Great example of pick blocking.
The great thing about some tunings is that you can make a change to one string and play different tunes.
On this you changed the Low C to C#.
Look what Mike Neer did by changing the High E to D.

James. I used to play this years ago in a blues band...it brought back memories.
Stephen. I have been trying to use just standard C6 but have invariably been drawn to the 7th chord in this tuning! I remember watching that Mike Neer video a while back...very cool. All of Mikes videos are worth watching!

I have been informed this was actually played in 1933 by Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang!
The record shows Kirwan as the author but from the video posted the clarinet solo has clearly been copied in the Fleetwood Mac version...... I suppose a big clue is in the title!https://youtu.be/7JYYhYlNIyI |

I've read somewhere that Kirwan freely acknowledged familiarity with the Lang/Venuti recording. Composer credit for that one is given to Adrian Rollini (saxophone), although credit for the part Kirwan borrowed (other than the title) perhaps more properly goes to Jimmy Dorsey, clarinet player on that recording.
Whether Kirwan properly deserved authorship credit on the Fleetwood Mac recording... probably should have been credited to Kirwan/Rollini, given it's not simply a cover version. Something for lawyers to sort out, right? $$$$ |
