Hi folks,
First post. Anybody ever hear of Herbert Pahupu Byrnes? He played with Ernie Kaai’s Royal Hawaiian Troubadours. He kinda brought Hawaiian music to Indonesia. Died in the concentration camps in ‘44. He was my grandfather. Not too much info on him. I play guitar and keyboards, felt I should learn the steel guitar before I die,.

Thanks in Advance,

Ed Byrnes

He's mentioned in passing in Lorene Ruymar's book "The Hawaiian Steel Guitar and Its Great Hawaiian Musicians". He's also discussed here.

Search for "Herbert Byrnes steel guitar" to see if you find anything else. Good luck!
