I find It's a take a little.. give a little.. receive a little between the two. Guitar and Steel can call and respond, even dance, communicate together and mimic each other. So I find when I change over from one I get little bits of knowledge that transcends back and forth. Most importantly six string & steel has taught me again 'Less is always more'. I start there first..then go off into the hot licks and speed guitar realm, I'm always learning, changing, and improving both. Very Happy

As a guitar player who has switched completely to steel these days, when I go back to guitar the chops have diminished greatly, of course, but I do find that I play solos more lyrically and with less filler. I think steel has helped me edit my guitar playing better.

I've been playing guitar again after not playing for several years, and I was able to achieve something that I was striving to do, which is unlearn all of my bad habits. My approach to the neck is different--not really guided at all by my steel playing, but maybe by some earlier guitar lessons which were based on Charlie Banacos' teachings to Mike Stern.

Steel doesn't affect my guitar playing very much, especially E9.
