He's playing a Franklin with the early badge in this video. Pretty decent shot at 5:23.

What a singer/writer RIP Mel...what a band...it's sad we don't see much of this music anymore.

Yes, it's a highly-disciplined ensemble.

As for Mel, I'm ashamed to say that I was unaware of his writing credits. He was prolific, wasn't he? I hadn't paid him much attention and thought of him only as an okay-ish singer with a lot of personality.

This clip was an eye-opener and Paul Franklin was amazing even then.

absolutely. that makes me feel that the good old days are over.
it`s all about musicianship there not about ego.
personally i saw mel and his band once in early 2000.
i`ll never forget that!
he`s one of the best, if not the best singer when it comes to country shuffles
for me.

Excellent. Clearly the director's special skill of finding the steel solo in the 15th bar was already well-honed back then.

Terrific band, great mix and camera work. There are quite a few tunes after OBS.
Paul's hair is almost as big as his bell bottoms.

Yes great band and Pauls playing is excellent as usual. Does anyone know who fiddlers are. Guy on left is having a blast, looks like maybe Kenny Sears in middle, always real stiff collared and excellent player? Guy on right was with Mel a long time but dont know his name.

The end of the video lists the musicians. As you suspected, Kenneth Sears is one of the fiddlers. The other two are Paul Justice and James Buchanan. What a great trio of fiddlers.

I'm glad this is on youtube. I remember watching it when it aired in 1980 or early 80's. I had never heard of Paul until then. What a great band too.

Norbert, I tried, but it was improper. Embarassed

Wow, precise, professional, nothing wasted. Great musicianship.
