Dear members,
after playing more than 30 years my ShoBud SuperPro (6166) I'm just wondering if there is somehow a way to set the guitar back to a kind of factory default.
In the past only the strings have been renewed on a regular basis and the guitar was put in tune, lubricated and cleaned again. I can imagine that at a certain
point in time one or the other raise or lower tuning nut will reach it's end stop so the needed space to get in tune will not be available anymore.
Does someone here in the forum have experience how to re-adjust or accomplish that or even have instructions or a guideline for that?

You're right Richard but what are you gonna do in case you end up out of tune? |

The first thing I would do is back out all of the tuning nuts, tune the open notes, and then tune the pedals/levers. If that doesn't work out, then I would think about other things under the guitar. You shouldn't be able to bottom out those nylon nuts. That should get the guitar back close to default. If there is still some slack in the pull train, the nylon nut shouldn't be a problem. You can also buy new tuning nuts if you want. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

back out all the tuning nuts |
do you mean to turn all the nylon nuts counter-clockwise? |

Understood,
when all the tuning nuts have been back out are the changers going into their neutral position?
And what are the next steps - tuning the floor pedals/knee levers, first the raises or the lowers? |

...perhaps some of you pedal steel mechanics who have experience in re-assembling steels from scratch can provide a bit more of detailed information about this topic. |

Are you reporting that this has now happened, or are you worrying about something that may happen?
The only way that the situation you worry about can happen is if the pullrod slips in its puller on the bellcrank. This can happen on MSA, on Dekleys, and on Carters where the owner has eliminated the shepherd's crook and dogbone in favor of MSA-style pull pins.
Since the Super Pro has a right angle bend where the rod goes into the bellcrank, it can't slip there.
HOWEVER, it can appear to happen when the nylon nuts wear out (repeated tuning will wear down the internal threads, and the rod just pulls through the nuts).
No adjustment is necessary or even possible; just replace the nylon nuts. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

..nothing has happened so far but I'm worrying that something might happen in the near future since the steel is 30+ years.
I guess nylon nuts are somewhere available in the web.
Thanks for the answer, Lane!
