In the early 50's I performed in an amateur contest at the Riverside Rancho.
The Rancho's house band was backing up the amateurs. I was allowed to
stand next to the steel man and listen (and watch) him play. He played a
brilliant solo break then leaned over to me and said, "I don't know this song
I'm just faking it". I thought this was funny since he was a professional but I'd
never heard of him. His name was Joaquin Murphey.

Whoa. If I could go back in time, one of the first things I'd do would be to go hear Murph. You got to watch him. How cool.

I met him when he lived in Chandler Az. But I never heard him play.His health wasn't the best then . _________________ Steeling is still legal in Arizona
