Someone told me Emmons was "officially" out of business. Wonder if its true? Anyone know for sure?

I've mailed Ron a couple of days ago and have not received an answer yet.But somebody told me that Ron doesn't answer mails.
So I don't really know the situation about Emmons.I would like to know though.

Ron, I am dealing with other builders via email and their response time averages about 14 days.

I just got a call from Rebecca Lashley yesterday and they are ready to ship my second, new D-10 push/pull. It sure doesn't sound like they're out of business to me. How do these rumors get started?

I don't see that as a problem.
Hey Pete, I DO see that as a problem. I can guaranty you that if I did decide to buy a new guitar, of any kind, and it took the builder two weeks to get back with me it would be nearly two weeks too late.
In my business a reasonably quick return contact is simply a matter of professional courtesy. I don't see how a guitar builder should be any different.
Case in point, I emailed Carter with a question about one of their guitars on a Saturday. Monday morning I got an email from Anne with an answer. I didn't buy a new Carter this time and ended up getting a 66 Emmons BUT I'll remember how Carter runs their business the next time I'm looking for a new guitar.

Peter,
I mailed Bob Rains a couple of times and this gentlemen mailed me back the same day.
IMO if a business man would take 14 days to answer my mail he has lost the deal.
There are others that are quicker then that.

14 days?
I ordered a dozen custom-sets of Gibson guitar strings last August; Just last month I rec'd a partially complete order with some wrong strings included.
Customer service seems to elude steel guitar players. $136.00 for strings....isn't a small order for strings, in my opinion and yet I guess I'm supposed to install some custom strings intermingled with off the shelf strings...........what a joke! |

i don't have a horse in this race, but I know from experience that the Emmons Guitar Company has always been slow to respond to customers. It was true when I bought mine in 1978 and it's true today.
I expect that if and when they go out of business, there will be a formal announcement. The fact that their web site is still up is good enough for me.
Unfounded rumors of their demise have been posted several times over the past few years. Such rumors are bad for business, and serve no useful purpose in my opinion.

b0b, thanks for your email. I probably shouldn't have taken your post personally. I try very hard to be as considerate and respectful to everyone as is humanly possible. If you have any doubts whatsoever about this post causing problems you have my blessing to slam it closed and I won't say one word about it. I gotta say:
If there is a rumor of a company closing,
and you don't ask here,
then the rumor just keeps going.
If you DO ask here, the rumor gets scotched,
or confirmed for all to see.
That stops the rumor faster than other ways IMHO.

The reason I started this thread is that I recently made a deal to buy an Emmons S10. Beautiful black 66 bolt on in great shape and I know eventually it'll need parts. Then I heard about the possibility of Emmons closing shop and I got a little concerned that I might not be able to get new parts if I ever need them. So I asked the question here in hopes of finding the truth. Sure didn't mean to step on any toes or upset anybodys apple cart. Just an honest question.

P.S. It was suggested that I simply call Emmons and ask the question of them. I don't know those folks at all and am not comfortable at all with calling them to ask that question. |

I have had an excellent business relationship with the Lashleys over the years. I have ordered and received new guitars, many parts and lever kits and just recently a new D-10 push/pull guitar.
I'll have to admit that sometimes they are rather hard to get ahold of and slow to respond, but I have my idiosyncrasies too! Rebecca is very easy to visit with and if you don't get a chance to talk to her, her mom, Bobby, is a sweatheart of a gal too! You don't get a chance to talk to Ron very often. After all, he's busy cranking out those wonderful EMMONS GUITARS!

Does Emmons still make and sell parts for 39-year-old guitars? There aren't many manufacturers in any industry that are willing to do that. |

Well they are building Push Pull steels again so I guess they will have parts for sale for these steel guitars.
I haven't seen one of these new P/P's but I think that the parts they are using now will have the same measurements as the older parts.
Changing that would be unwise.For other parts such as kneelevers and necks and body's Emmons always had a special pricelist which is available on the Emmons website.

Well since they are making push pulls again, the parts should be pretty much the same I guess. Maybe not who knows. Wont matter much if they're on the way out.
