Topic: Type of speaker for a Webb 6-14E? |

Recently acquired one of these amps that was removed from the original combo and placed in a custom enclosure. Now I need to get a speaker and build a cabinet to match. Trying to figure out what direction to go has been a bit confusing.
What was the original speaker used in this combo amp?
Ohm rating?
12†or 15†?
Lots of options out there and I’ve never built a cabinet before so any help or suggestion is welcome.

Mine came with an E 130 , 15", 4 ohm. Good speaker,but heavy !
It also sounds great with any steel friendly speaker.
Ive also tried K 130, Altec 418, Black Widow and the new Emminence neo type.
They all worked well. I think I have the K130 now, and its a winner.A bit heavy. |

Webb originally installed JBL K-130 alnico magnet speakers. They sounded great but couldn't handle the power very well when pushed as Webb's put out 225 watts at 4-ohms and the K series were rated about 150 watts. They switched to the JBL E-130 ceramic magnet speaker which also sound good but not as good as the K series. The E series weighs about 10 lbs more but handles 300 watts. I've tried all of the NEO speakers and while they sound nice...it's still not a JBL tone, IMHO.
Here's a couple of Webb clone cabinets I built to match my Webb amp head. I have one loaded with a K-130 and the other with an E-130 and very happy!!!

Better buy a few spare JBL's.
I went thru a few JBL's when using Webb amps. |

Hillary, if you can sit tight for a little bit, I’ve got a 15†version of my speaker coming out soon. Tyler Hall has been using it in his Webb and he said it’s the best it’s ever sounded. |

| Travis, will the 15" be a 4 or 8ohm and with an alum or paper cone? Not sure how the design in neoyidium speakers play out, but would think with a 15" to maintain good mids and not brittle highs, an aluminum dust cone may come back into play. |

Hey Kevin. I designed it to be a direct replacement for the majority of 15†combos, and obviously any other 15†installation. It is a 4 ohm speaker. If you take a look at the construction materials used in my 12†speaker, it is very similar. This is the 15†version of my existing signature speaker. Very modern sounding. Very good.

If you can stand the weight of a standard JBL speaker, Telonics offers rebuilt JBL's that stand up to more power, I think they'll withstand up to 250 watts, but double check with Dave Beatty at Telonics on that. I have one in a Telonics blonde open back cabinet, awesome sound. Down the road I will try Travis Toy's new 15-inch neo in my vintage Webb amp.

What b0b said: my original speaker was a 4-ohm K-130 JBL, but my fuzz tone keep blowing the speaker, had it redone at 8 ohms, no problems thereafter.
