Seems amazing to me that whatever guitar you use the Doug tone always come through. Very distinctive as always.

Thanks for the kind comments. I made the video last July, and now, in January, I enjoy watching it because it reminds me that summer will return! This snow, ice, and -15 degree weather is getting old! I'm ready for summer.

Wow, I don't visit the page often and feel lucky I ran into this thread. Beautiful work on a classic song. I was at the premier for the movie, back when Bruce was narrating live. A different time and a timeless tune. This gives me inspiration.

One of my all-time favorites of yours, Doug. That Root major to b7 major chord progression just zings me for some reason and I like hearing it in every genre Surf to rock to jazz to Celtic.

Great playing and tone as always, Doug. Smile

I seem to get better at surfing as the years go by...oh wait, I thought we were talking about looking things up on the Internet or changing channels on the TV!

Interesting musical factoid: Gary Hoey, Boston's own electric guitar shredmeister, did the soundtrack for the sequel, The Endless Summer II in 1994.

Great rendition, Doug!

The Endless Summer is one of my all-time favorite movies BTW if you still haven't seen it. Great memories of watching it with my uncle and eating too many root beer floats. We routinely quote lines from that movie in appropriate situations.

I’m inspired. Gonna get up early tomorrow and go check out my local break. There’s supposed to be a building south swell tomorrow. Then afterwards, I might try Doug’s tuning out for this tune.

I’m inspired to bump this up again. Today we hit 80 degrees for the first time in months! Plenty of sunshine and warm breeze. Things are different now, but days like this and songs like this make me hopeful.

Thanks Doug. Been a bit of a chilly spring so far here on Vancouver Island. I'm going to blast your tune out the window and see if we can wake up the sun. Very Happy

Hey Doug, really great playing as usual! To Andy’s request here is a version of Miserlou I worked out with the help of John Ely when I was taking lessons from him. I largely harmonized all of it except the octave stuff. This is all in John’s C13 tuning. This version is based on Martin Denny’s smash hit from the 50s. John called this scale a “Byzantine” scale, which he said had 2 harmonic minors in it. Enjoy!

Nice job, Jeremy. I love Exotica, and Miserlou is about as exotic as it gets!

Bump up for this classic tune for late Summer and for Doug's impeccable performance and atmospheric production. This recording always makes me happy.

Thanks for the bump, Andy! I too enjoy listening to this one. It brings back childhood memories of Cape Cod and Block Island.
