Yes a nice highly figured tiger stripe or birdseye maple would have been really nice - check out Billy Easton's Infinity and you will see the difference.

Of course we could hide the ugliness by covering it with some colorful mica!

This infinity looks rather plain. Same color as my kitchen cabinets. Why wasn't a ckassy wood like tiger maple used?

Call me weird, but I buy steels with my ears and not my eyes... I have never owned a better guitar, period

Well, it's not weird at all, Mike (as you well know) but the visual aspect is something to be considered.

In any case, browsing here in 'For Sale: Steel Guitars' the visual aspect is all we've got.

I understand that these are the most desirable steels out there and, as a result, this is understandably a high-price item. I'd have enjoyed looking at it more if it had been black mica.

Mickey, Does that mean that you will now be making infinities. If you do please match the appearance with the sound. So much good wood out there!

I would t call her ugly....different yes, plain compared to some other pieces of wood..yep.
The color combination is unique... not sure what you call it.
It IS an Infinity however, and she plays much differently than she did when she arrived.
I think the previous owner exclaimed that there were 24 pulls on the E9 neck.
I only need 18 for my copedent. 24 had the guitar completely bound.
She's not for sale currently, but eventually may be...
And no, I'm not a builder, and have no plans to begin..Smile

I've only got 16 with 8&5, what's the other 2? Must be Franklin pedal. Can't imagine 24, you can't even breath without hitting something, LOL.

I would imagine Lloyd had plenty of room to breath with his little 3+4 setup ... poor guy, he would have played and sounded much better if he only had 24 pulls Wink

ABC=6
LKR LKL LKV=6
Staggered LKL=1
RKR=3
RKL=3....Make that 19 on E9
I prefer to omit the Franklin Pedal..I lose too many split options, that become a real nightmare to tune..
5 compensator rods all bound..
I had to stand on all three pedals to get them to function..
The whole guitar was just tight as a drum...But still, technically she was in fine shape...!..And Im not EVEN gonna tell you how good she sounds....!!

Thanks Mickey and Mike, I like that B to A on 10th string, may slip that on my wood neck push pull.
Had a couple guitars with the staggered knees on left and always awkward to me but I guess just getting used to them. Congrats on the new guitar Mickey.

Congrats on the new Infinity, let us know how you like it . I suspect it may be hard for you to keep your hands off it long enough to update us. I cant resist mine for long.

Just as we all say tone is subjective,the same can be said for appearance. Ive been looking at this axe and happen to think it looks great. Really cool.

For me ,I think of my instruments more like tools, less like a piece of fancy bling. I think all the beauty underneath the cabinet is the bling.

Can you have both ? Of course, and thats cool as well, but if I had to choose between pretty on top or cool below...I choose below.

I owned the best looking steel Id ever seen. It killed me to sell it, but it didnt play as well as I had hoped. Beautiful on top , but underneath, it was..plain.

Enjoy your new Infinity, welcome to the Family.

If it comes to buying a steel that looks super and plays and sounds great as opposed to one looking pedestrian and playing and sounding the same as first, I'm in the Brian and Roger camp; I'd go with former. Billy Easton's Infinity certainly gets my vote in the looks department.
We all have different ideas as to what looks super. Stevet

And Mike is certainly not immune to visual charms either. Look what he's doing on his lacquer Emmons restoration - a gorgeous black/blue burst (Show-Pro-like) colour which I can't wait to see!

24 pulls on E9......
I have 35 pulls (37 including compensators....) on a single body U12 Infinity and it plays as good or better than any 3x4 E9 I`ve tried...😀
