Easter Sunday: a fitting time to finish up Gustav Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony tab, i.e. the fourth movement “Urlicht” or “Primeval Light.”

Unfortunately, here’s where the musical notation starts to go off the rails. With all the musicians employed in this piece, Mr. Mahler did not use a rock-steady drummer to hold down the beat. So while the notes/melody is largely correct, you’ll have to rely on the recording to get the timing.

—From Des Knaben Wunderhorn

So I came upon a broad path
Where a little angel wanted to turn me away.
Oh no! I would not let myself be turned away!
Oh no! I would not let myself be turned away!
I am from God and want to return to God!
The loving God, my dear God will give me a little light,
To show me the way to a life of eternal bliss!
