Looking for a 57/58/59 Gibson Ultratone lap steel, in any condition - project guitar or replaced parts is okay. Will have a serial number (on back near where the tuners are screwed) that begins with 7, 8, or 9, followed by a space and then four additional digits. These are the models with the yellowish finish and the cream colored top binding. Thanks!

The blond Ultratones of that period ('57-'59) are exceedingly scarce. According to Andre Duchossior, "less than 30 or so were made..." Survivors are nearly always found stripped of their pickup, which was an original Gibson PAF humbucker.

The string spacing at the bridge on these instruments is quite narrow because Gibson did not offer a special wider-spaced version of the 1957 PAF for lap steels like they did with their postwar P-90 pickup.

Good luck in your quest, John. The 1957 humbucker-equipped Ultratones are awesome instruments.
