I played on this EP a couple of years back with Andrea House who I have been playing with for quite a few years now, and who in addition to being a terrific actress, singer and songwriter is a wonderful person and a dear friend. "This Christmas Day" is a new Christmas song written by Andrea. You can hear a bit on the iTunes preview. The EP is also available from CD Babies I think. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/this-christmas-day-single/id789303903 |

This one is about 25 years old ("new" compared to traditional Christmas songs) and I never get tired of it. Lisa Layne was the original singer in the group "Vince Vance and the Valiants"...I think LeeAnn Rimes recorded it later as well.
Nice chords and it lays out well on steel...

here's Lisa doing it 20 years later with a little steel in the background

Jeff,
just an observation, during the Tele solo the camera shows the steel player as if he was playing this. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube.

It seems that every songwriter in the world has tried to write a popular Christmas song. They all fail. It's the golden nugget. If you write a new Christmas standard, you'll be set for life.
There's a new CD out that I played a small part in, as a fundraiser for KRCB public radio. It's called Holiday Connections 2016, and it's all local artists from Sonoma County, California. Some of the songs are standards, but most of them are original Christmas songs.

I play on the song "Tiny Reindeer" by Solid Air. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Joachim: yes, I was hoping the steel player would take part 2 of the break but it never happened. You can hear a few steel pads in the background throughout the song that "country" things up nicely though. |

Ha..!!! I'm kinda the opposite, I'm glad there are no "NEW " New Country Christmas songs that replace the classics.
As Bob says above, people try to write them, bands try to play them and they go over like bricks falling from the sky. The thing about it is the traditional songs have seasonal romance and charm to the lyrics and melody's, those big hat singers songs have zero seasonal charm and silly lyrics. You would never find any of those songs on the Goodyear or Firestone Christmas albums !
I'm happy playing a few of the standards on Steel which everyone loves and sings along to , for two or three gigs each year. Then I put them away until next year, in a box, where they belong.
Play White Christmas and you have an entire room that will sing along , play Run Rudolph Run and everyone sits and watches while you play Johnny B Goode at a Christmas party. ! But I did play and sing that one twice this weekend because the band leader wanted it.
If you are playing a Christmas event or party , you can play all the modern Christmas songs you want 'till the cows come home but you might want to have a few standards ready to go as well. : _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders

My wife and I were talking about this the other day... for us, ALL we need it stuff like White Christmas/Silent Night/Little Town of Bethlehem,... the likes of Dean Martin/Nat King Cole/Johnny Mathis... “Just the Hit’s Ma’am, Just the Hit’s" _________________ Dale Rottacker, Steelinatune™

The Christmas "classics" are arguably more about nostalgia than anything else - obviously, no new songs are going to have that attribute.. |

Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" comes to mind re: new (non-country) Christmas classics. |

Kacey Musgraves had a great Christmas album out this year. The title was unfortunate but you can't have it all. A Very Kacey Christmas. Here is my favorite from the album.
