Tommy, they all work in the same ballpark.
Bass, turn it up til it gets "woofy", then knock it back (usually around +9)
Mid about 10 o'clock, shift about 2
High and presence about +3 each, sometimes I'll raise the highs and cut the presence, but the two usually add up to +6.
Pre gain around 3-5, post/master all the way up.

Lane,
To what extent has your 400 been modified?

I use the same settings Garry uses although I might bump the high's up just a little.

The Nashville 400 is a friend's. I don't know what mods, if any.
I've noticed that all the Peavey steel amps so far tend to sound best with about the same settings

I've used about the same settings as mentioned. Sometimes I'll tweak it plus-or-minus depending on the room, the steel or even my mood. But it's always pretty much in the ballpark of what's shown.

My attention was raised, though, by Lane's response where he mentioned turning the post-gain all the way up. I've never done that - the only reason being its never occurred to me to do that. Maybe I'll try that tonight at the gig.

Amps without a master volume/post gain knob still have a post gain control. It's turned up all the way, then the pot is replaced with a piece of wire.
The only reason to turn it down is to crank the pre-gain to saturate the preamp.
