I'm looking for a case for my '50s dual pro. Can anyone give me some examples of alternative cases you're using......flight cases, gun cases, gig bags.......anything?
Also if anyone has a (hard to find) case circa 1951, I'd like one of those as well. Thank you. |

My original case is really falling to bits but I have a gig bag, intended for a 49 key keyboard, which I bought for the body of my Sho~Bud S10 pedal steel. My Dual pro fits in there fine, along with a bit of foam and the legs fit in the pocket. It's a bit longer than I need but is the best I've found so far. |

Pelican gun cases are tops, like an even heftier SKB - though hefty in price & weight as well as "do not drop, it will break the airplane" toughness. I have a 1720, but the sizes are here somewhere:
http://www.pelican.com/us/en/products/watertight-protector-hard-cases/
The 1720 will exactly fit OVER the whole soft case that the MSA SuperSlide came in. You can snoot around for better prices, and if you have more guitars than cases, some of which will never be going the same place at the same time and you have as much/more sense than a fencepost, you can buy & cut different sets of foam, even a big roll of it, cheaper than buying sets from Pelican. Gig-bag-inside-Pelican gets a good start on exact-ish foam-fittery. Used ones with wrong-cut foam show up, and it's hard to imagine what someone could DO to the case to degrade it functionally. And SKB, Gator and all make keyboard cases that may get you somewhere.
P.S.(If you'll be flying* I would recc'd NOT gluing any foam down, as securely-glued foam is EXACTLY the sort of thing to enrage a minimum-wage TSA employee.)

For the past sixteen years, in the car, in trailers and
under buses, I've been using a Fender Mustang case.
I wouldn't dare fly it, but in fairly
responsible hands it has fared well.

I have a 49 key keyboard gig bag.......it's just way bigger than it needs to be. Pelican cases are great. The 1700 looks to be the closest size wise......again about 6" longer than necessary. So in that mustang case.....looks like the steel is fitting perfectly between the neck support and the end of the case? That's pretty cool.
I wouldn't mind just a simple gig bag that fits good....but I can't seem to sleuth one out.
I'm happy with my Danny Bentley style cases for my D10. That'd be an option from brandx. Or get a flight case made. Anyone with any other gig bag suggestions? Thanks. |

NORD makes a soft keyboard case that is a very good fit. Around $100 I think. _________________ Kevin Maul: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Decophonic, Evans, Excel, Fender, Fluger, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

Thanks for the tip Stefan. Coming up short in my search of skate bags.
A Dual Professional measures 29 x 11.5 x 2.75".......
Anyone have any other suggestions for a case (soft or hard) in this size range? |

Looks like the case is fit for purpose.
I'd be apprehensive to order one from US and have it shipped over here.
AR cases for non active military personnel doesn't work. Or worse yet someone will mistake me as carrying an AR and that would be the end. Next time you would hear about me would be on the news as I would be gunned down.
No thanks. _________________ Stefan

I just ordered one. Maybe I can get a second foam insert so I can have one cut out for my Clinesmith Joaquin and one for my Dual Pro. They seem airline checkable if you have external TSA locks which they're apparently drilled for.
I may stencil "NOISY BUT NOT A GUN" on the side! _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Contact any local FOAM Place , typically supplies Upholstery shops.
They can sell you foam sheets cut to the size you want.
If you get a few sheets - say 1 or 2 " thick you can create a bottom layer solid and only cut the top area of the lower case.
Chances are the foam place can cut out your instrument shape for you with their pro cutter.
Ask for ELE foam, it has the longest life. (Exactly Like Ester) Camera Foam 2nd choice.
Just because thy are advertised as Weapon cases , these are used for all sorts of professionals, Example;
Rescue gear EMT difribb units and so on, High End Computer protection , Camera Crews , Hawaiian Steel Harps. _________________ GeorgeBoards S8 Non Pedal Steel Guitar Instruments

Thanks for the tips, George. We have a "Friendly Foam Shop" here in Seattle, so that shouldn't be any problem. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

A little follow up on a case I ended up buying.
It's a tactical rifle (bullpup) case measuring 30x13.5x3"
Good fit with a little room for the legs.
Made by Elite. Sold by Amazon for $99. A little pricey for a gig bag....but I couldn't find another soft case that fit this good for all my searching. It is heavy duty. |

A followup on the Plano case discussed above... I got one and had the local foam shop cut two inserts. One fits my Clinesmith Joaquin guitar plus Deluxe34 stand. The other insert fits my Dual Pro (without space for the legs). I just took it with the Clinesmith round trip from Seattle to Denver as checked baggage. It worked pretty well. TSA dug in to it on both legs and didn't close the end latches on the way to Denver. One latch got damaged, so I'll see if I can get a replacement from Plano. The airlines wanted me to sign something for my "weapon" and I had to explain that it wasn't. The Bob Wills sticker and Hawaiian flag didn't seem to help. They even said on the return flight: "well you had a weapon in it coming out here, right?". Sheesh. Anyway, worked "pretty well". _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"
