Most of them work on just one string.
That did make a version specifically for steel guitar at one time which acted on 2 strings but they are as rare as hens teeth - rarer for one in good working condition. |

Yes, I contacted Ebow to suggest they reissue them but they said no way! Maybe I need to do some experiments with 2 regular Shows and some duct tape  |

I believe the Steel Ebow was two regular units potted in epoxy. If you have a couple and they're easily disassembled, you could try...

I just bought a new Ebow!
Sarah Jory used one in Dallas, and it was very cool!
I recorded a song demo with it already.

Hi Pete,
Nice playing there.
I was also at the Dallas show and loved seeing Sarah playing live for the first time.
I've also found that the e-Bow is the only gadget I really like to use a lot though I know not to over do the thing.
She brought tears to my eyes when she dedicated that song to her dad who has passed away. Some of that was bringing back my own dads passing 15 years ago.
In 40+ years of hearing so many great players those tears were a first for me.
She also did some wonderful playing in the Mullen room.

I learned an EBow trick from Frank Carter last weekend at the Southern California Steel Jam...
We did "Amarillo By Morning", and after the set I noticed that Frank had an Ebow, and I mentioned that the [fiddle] Intro would be a good Ebow song.
He was able to get the lick going pretty good with the Ebow, pretty quickly!
Then I mentioned that I had just gotten one and was thinking of adding some cardboard to the bottom, to get it off the strings just a little more, to avoid string-rattle...
Now here is the trick...
Frank showed me how he leans it forward, towards the front of the Steel, to keep it both stable/anchorded, and also control the distance of the magnet to the string.
This way you can also go left and right to the various sweet spots (closer to the pickup, or closer to a harmonic node, etc), and leaning it forward is like having a sensetivity control (you mailnly don't want the undesireable sound of the vibrating string touching the plastic frame of the Ebow).
I have been working it in on some fills in Ballads, and sustain-endings, on my gigs. It has a haunting quailty.
I read another post where a player said he put some coins in the battery compartment to give it some weight so he could set it off alone on the strings and play other strings around it.
I tried it, and I've dropped my brand new Ebow off the neck deck onto a hard-wood floor like three or four times so far. I gotta braistorm that one still.
  
I am going to try to get one of my bands to do "Love Hurts" by Nazareth (Glam Rock version).
There is Ebow (guitar) starting at the 2min mark at the first Bridge, but the main Ebow solo starts at 2min-45sec.
It will be great on Steel!

Pete, I think you could affix the eBow to a short cord that attaches to the changer cavity where springs are located. That would keep it from crashing to the floor!

Though some here may doubt it, you can get almost the same effect with a lot of amp gain and proper volume pedal use  I use this method regularly, and some people have thought I used an Ebow or other sustain device.
Nope.
Of course, I can't get the "endless sustain" you can get with the Ebow, but I find that 5 to 10 seconds of the effect is about all I'd normally use, anyway. |
