I'm trying to describe the rack and barrel system, and I'm wondering if there is a standard nominclature for the parts.
There are four pieces: The barrel, the set-screw, the spring, and the piece which screws in and out.
What is that last one called? Of course, other than "the piece that screws in and out"?
Serious answers please.

Al, this could cause some confusion since the "tuner" means usually the one on the endplate. How about the "barrel tuner" or "barrel tuning disc" would that make sense?

How about "barrel tuner?"
And I'd call that little spring "indispensable."

Jack asked what was I playing....
I had a 6139 Single neck. It came with 3 & 1 and I added three more knees.
I DO have a pic or two of me playing it, but none of the mechanism.
Years ago I got a bunch of changers (old Sho-Bud, newer Sho Bud, Emmons, and MSA) and built "demonstrator" models for Jimmie Crawford. Each had a single string and cranks to raise and lower. It was neat watching it all work.
I do have pics of those that I'll use.
